DRUMMING LESSONS

Finally the kids have a drumming teacher/tutor. Michael, a volunteer intern from USA, will be teaching the kids how to play the African drum weekly. The kids are eager to become master drummers like he is.

CHICKEN PROJECT

Beacon House received funding from Meredith College in North Carolina, North Carolina State Department of Poultry Science and NC Egg Association to build a chicken coupe on our property just outside Accra/near Dodowa and to buy chicks/layers.
The chicken coupe has been built and we recently completed some finishing touches anticipating the arrival of the chicks. We sought advice from nearby chicken farmers who helped us source the required items. We hired an experienced chicken farmer and a helper who will be managing the chicks/chickens. All in all, progress with the project has been positive apart from one major setback -- getting the chicks!!! A ban has been imposed on the import of day old chicks due to the outbreak of bird flu in the exporting countries.
We are now waiting for the ban to be lifted so we can buy 200 day old chicks.
