Educational Sponsorship for Children in the Upper East Region, Ghana

The following are some of the children Beacon House sponsors or is seeking funds to sponsor at boarding schools in the Upper East Region of Ghana.  Along with paying school fees, buying books and supplies, Beacon House assists with clothing, food and spending money whenever possible.  Please open your hearts and wallets and help us  … help give these children a future.

ASAADA

Asada is 12 years old. His mother was accused of being a witch and, even after her death, the family was ostracized and had to move from their village.  Because of the stigma of witchcraft, the father has been unable to find work. Despite the hardships the family has endured, Asada is like every other boy in Ghana, enjoys football.  When asked what he wants to be when he grows up, he replied “a soldier so I can protect people from harm.”

Beacon House was able to find a boarding school for Asada where he is a student in Primary Three.  In order for him to remain there, we need a sponsor willing to pay USD 500/annual school fees.

ATABILA

Atibila is a deaf 15 year old boy. He is an only child and his father is deceased. His mother is paralyzed and is unable to care for herself, let alone Atibila.  Thanks to Beacon House, he is currently attending a government funded school for the deaf but needs a sponsor to pay USD 15/month (USD 180/year) for his uniform, books, supplies, and transportation.

Beacon House is also seeking donations to pay for Atibila to travel to Accra (from Bolgatanga, Upper East Region) to have his hearing assessed.  The approximate costs for this will be USD , which includes, transportation, lodging, food (for both Atibila and an escort), and related medical costs.

BISMARK

Bismark is 15 years of age.  Both his parents are deceased.  After their deaths, he went to live with a sister who had recently married.  However, having a child in the house caused financial problems for the newlyweds who were already poor.  Beacon House found a boarding school for him and he’s doing well. His favorite subject in school is maths. He is very good at repairing electrical items and wants to be an electrician when he grows up.

To continue his education, Bismark needs a sponsor willing to pay USD 500 annual school fees.

WILFRED

Wilfred is 10 years old and an orphan.  His mother died giving birth to his younger sister.  He lived with his father but because the father has been unable to find work, Wilfred would have had to drop out of school if it weren’t for the intervention of Beacon House.  He is presently living and studying at a boarding school in the Upper East Region and hopes to be a bank manager when he grows up.

GODWIN

Godwin is 12 years old.  Both of his parents died from AIDS and his brother and he went to live with an uncle.  It was his responsibility to care for his five year old brother who is HIV positive, including giving him his medicines.  His brother was eventually removed from the home because of health concerns and placed for adoption.

Godwin is now enrolled in a boarding school and to stay there, he needs a sponsor to pay USD 500/annual school fees.

ESTHER

Esther is the oldest of 5 children whose father passed away.  She lost her hearing at a young age due to high fever and infection (possibly meningitis).  Esther’s mother is mentally unstable and unable to work and care for the children.  Social Welfare placed the younger children into foster care.  For a number of years, Esther attended a school for the deaf and has been recently mainstreamed into a public boarding school.

Esther is enrolled in vocational courses (dress-making) at school and needs a sponsor to pay USD 500/year for food, transportation and school supplies.

JOE

Joe is 12 years of age. He has no parents and is cared for by his grandmother, who has elephantiasis. Often, there is no food for them to eat and school is definitely beyond their means. Beacon House is currently supporting Joe so he can attend a boarding school where he is in Primary Three.  His vacations and holidays are spent at the school because his home situation is so desperate.  He wants to be a lawyer when he grows up.  With your help as a sponsor you can make that happen for only USD 500 per year.

Please if you can assist in the education of any of these children contact Beacon House at beaconhouseghana@yahoo.com
